Surfing paradise… in Milan?
For surfing enthusiasts who are missing their hobby in the decidedly inland city of Milan, there’s a new attraction that makes catching a wave much easier… Step forward, Wakeparadise, which has just opened in Peschiera Borromeo. It’s a large artificial lagoon – the “largest floating surf pool in the world”, according to park president Ludovico Vanoli – and the first such park in Italy. Wakeparadise offers a ten-metre wide wave with a maximum height of 1.6 metres, but there are options to suit all abilities, including gentle waves for beginners. It’s an environmentally conscious project too, using renewable energy and enforcing a ban on plastic throughout the park. So surfing enthusiasts in Milan now have the chance to practise the sport year round, and beginners can have a try in a safe environment. Wakeparadise also looks set to make a fun day trip for city-breakers who want something a bit different when visiting the many sights of Milan.
