There is a lot of plastic used in gardening now. KG’s Emma Rawlings takes a view that if we have it we should appreciate and reuse it, rather than dump it

Plastic is a dirty word lately and rightly so, with it creating such a mess in the environment. However, you could argue plastic isn’t the problem. The problem is how humans have managed it. If we had, from day one of its invention, the right attitude about it and also had processes in place to recycle or destroy every bit of it without damaging the environment, it might be a different story. The problem is that plastic is cheap — and cheap means disposable. If it had a higher value we would hold on to it and recycle it better. We need to perhaps change our thinking in this regard and every piece of plastic that comes into our possession should be appreciated and managed appropriately. This means we firstly use less plastic and think before we buy: “Is there an alternative to this?”
