We all long for some lovely summer weather, but with the heat comes the hard work of watering. Here are some top tips to help reduce the load and to ensure your crops get to enjoy every drop

Water early in the morning or in the evening when it is cooler to allow your crops and the soil time to take up the water before it evaporates in the midday sun

Water is a precious resource in any garden, but can be even harder to come by on an allotment. Not all allow hoses, so summer can mean weeks of carrying watering cans to keep precious crops alive. Plants under cover rely on you, even if it is pouring down outside. So what can you do to save your back, while ensuring that your crops get all they need to give you heavy harvests of tasty produce?
