CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-UP
FEATHERSTONE ROVERS have extended the contracts of prolific try-scorer Gareth Gale and prop Gadwin Springer and snapped up Leigh halfback Ben Reynolds and Warrington centre Greg Minikin.
Winger Gale and Reynolds are both under terms until 2025 in the club's first confirmed squad arrangements following their play-off semi-final elimination.
League Leaders' Shield winners Featherstone had been favourites to go up but lost 36-26 at home to London Broncos.
Chairman Mark Campbell then confirmed he would review the playing budget, saying the club's approach needed to be more sustainable.
The arrival of experienced duo Reynolds, 29, and Minikin, 28, and retention of Gale, 30, who scored 30 tries in 29 games this year, and France international Springer, also 30, is therefore a boost for coach James Ford.
Reynolds was born in Pontefract and started out at Castleford before playing for Leigh and Wakefield, from whom he had a loan stint at Featherstone in 2019.
"He’s an outstanding kicker and excellent when executing plays with his strong running game," said Ford.
Gale joined Rovers from community club Featherstone Lions in 2020, and has crossed 65 times since.
