Spalding Arts & Crafts Society

Lorraine Swepson with her painting, Sunset, acrylic ink, 141⁄2x141⁄2in. (37x37cm), voted the public’s favourite painting at the recent Spalding Arts & Crafts Society exhibition. This year the show included a ‘meet the artist’ day, as well as a ‘paint a pig’ postcard challenge which proved to be very popular with visitors. Lorraine started painting in her late 50s, being inspired by Jill Bays’s Drawing Workbook. She writes: ‘I eventually joined a painting class where I was introduced to watercolour – a medium that often has a mind of its own. I then started to play with acrylics and was surprised by the results. I began drawing images over the top of my abstract acrylic paintings to produce a range of images. Sunset (right) is one such painting.’ The Spalding Arts and Crafts Society organises a monthly demonstration by professional artists and an occasional painting challenge.
