Painting project

Part 2 Begin painting the roe deer, introduced last month, by completing the drawing and painting the eyes with Paul Hopkinson

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

How to draw your subject accurately

How to use and remove masking fluid

Bring the eyes to life

Last month I introduced you to a beautiful photograph of a roe deer (right), explained different methods of drawing your subject and offered advice on composition, colours, backgrounds and adding the detail to get you started. I also included information on how to observe and photograph wildlife unnoticed. In the next two issues, I hope you will follow me step by step as I paint the subject in all its detail. This month we begin with applying masking fluid, painting a background, and bringing life to the deer’s eyes. Next month is dedicated to adding first base washes, painting a lifelike nose, adding layers of hair in detail and creating that allimportant three-dimensional effect. LP
