PROVENCE, FRANCE
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of France’s most renowned wine labels, and it gets its historic papal endorsement from a series of 14th-century popes who resided in Avignon. This summer marks 700 years since one of them built the castle that stands in the wine’s namesake town. At the celebratory Fête de la Véraison, markets and tastings of wine will join medieval pageantry, including costumed parades, falconry and displays of swordsmanship.
