A wild drive

I decided to leave my life in Belgium behind and go somewhere with lots of nature and not many people.

I chose Namibia, one of the least densely populated countries in the world and a place composed largely of sand and desert. From the capital, Windhoek, I spent six weeks driving around the country on dirt and rock roads, sleeping in huts and lodges or on top of my 4x4. On the way, I visited places like the Sossusvlei dunes and Etosha National Park, a huge reserve home to a range of wildlife, from lions, zebras and giraffes to colourful birds. The landscapes were as surreal as I’d hoped – bare and empty, like I was on another planet. It felt very special to experience somewhere so natural and little impacted by humans, and with so much space. It was one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever been. I’d love to go back.
