The landscapes of Nova Scotia, Peggy’s Cove among them, are a fine introduction to a grand Canadian adventure

WHY LOVE ATLANTIC CANADA
CHRISTA LARWOOD, CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF VIDEO I visited eastern Canada to research a story about its seafaring communities. It’s a region where the scenery can be as dramatic as the tales I heard of brave fishermen, wily smugglers and bloodstained privateers. Landscapes of desolate beauty – lighthouse-topped rocks standing fast against the shearing ocean winds – gave way to fishing villages with the charm to inspire a thousand watercolour paintings. They, in turn, inspire a thousand reasons to get outdoors. Walkers explore beaches backed by high clifs, while kayakers hope to glimpse a whale. This is also the place for my kind of cycling: uphill stretches are scarce and cycle-friendly establishments bountiful on the Confederation Trail on Prince Edward Island, which follows an old railway line.
