OUTPOST DRIVE, HOLLYWOOD (1980). ACRYLIC ON CANVAS, 60x60 © DAVID HOCKNEY
Rarely do sun-dappled Hollywood hills and blustery Yorkshire farmland appear in the same sentence. Both, however, loom large in the output of David Hockney, whose work appears at a retrospective at Tate Britain this month. Look out for Outpost Drive, Hollywood (1980), featuring the cactus-strewn Runyon Canyon and half a skyscraper (NB. It definitely isn’t Yorkshire).
