3 Fitness Trends You Haven’t Tried

Posted 09 January 2018   |   820 views   |   Sport   |   Comments (0) We’ve all heard of the crazy exercises people are trying - from animal yoga to orange theory. But if one of your New Year's resolutions is to get fit and find some sort of exercise you’ll enjoy then maybe you will love one of these…

Strength Training

Every year more people are getting involved and picking up the dumbells to test their limits. It's no wonder why, seeing as the benefits are endless. Lifting weights not only helps build muscle and strength, but also helps to lose fat, increase metabolism and maintain a healthy heart. The long-term benefits of weight training are even better with healthy weight management and a toned body! For help and inspiration, grab the latest copy of Muscle & Fitness magazine, which is always packed with training guides and advice to help you get started. Strength training can be done at the gym or you can get some home equipment and do it in the comfort of your own home, too.

CrossFit

If you have no idea what CrossFit is, then don’t worry - neither did we! Essentially, CrossFit is functional movements performed at high intensity and usually in a class. With group training on the rise, CrossFit has become one of the latest workouts people are loving! Erin Lutz, Creative Director at Strong Fitness magazine regularly takes CrossFit classes and explains it as “movements that were designed to complement each other [...] focusing on each movement's purpose and how your body moves through it”. CrossFit pushes your body to its limits and helps you beat personal bests, borrowing from all other training methods. This must be why so many people are giving it a try this year!

Open Water Swimming

As more people want to spend time outside and at one with nature, it's no wonder that this fitness trend is becoming popular. Open water swimming is usually in groups, where you swim in natural lakes, rivers and oceans. Definitely not one for beginners! Different from a dip in your local swimming pool, fans of outdoor swimming describe a feeling of being free, feeling nature between your toes and love the social aspect too... despite the freezing cold! If you're a regular swimmer getting a bit bored of the four-walled swimming pool, then this could be something you could give a go this year. With an Outdoor Swimmer magazine subscription, you can find new favourite spots, advice and outdoor swimming groups near you too.

If you are not ready to tackle one of these fitness trends, maybe you’ll find something else you’ll love to try in one of our other health and fitness magazines!
