A new study has shown that to protect your long-term mobility, you need to start strengthening your hip flexors – now. Researchers at Kyoto University tested the functionality of different body parts and analysed whether any of these physical factors influenced longer-term mobility issues and joint pain. They found that traditional markers, such as grip strength and knee flexion, were not major risk factors, but weak hip flexors were a key predictor for reduced mobility in later life.
