Sheffield Wednesday defender Sam Hutchinson has spoken about his battle with depression and anxiety as part of a campaign sponsored by the English Football League (EEL) and the charity MIND. Hutchinson, who played for Chelsea and captained England as a youngster, says he began to suffer with depression in his early teens. For the campaign ‘Inside the Mind of...’ he spoke out about the crippling levels of internal turmoil which left him hating the sport he excelled at: “A massive thing with me is just speaking about it... I was angry, I’d argue with people, the only constant for me was my girlfriend... She was the only one who could calm me down.” Hutchinson is one of a number of professional footballers who have recorded videos for the campaign.
