If I was worrying that training at a premium Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym would mean experiencing a watered-down version of the sport, I needn’t have. At one point during my first session at Arma, my partner was lying on his back with his feet pressed into my hips and hands grabbing at the lapels of my white gi. From my position above him, a bead of sweat rolled off my forehead and on to his. Disgusting? Yes. Par for the course in any BJJ class? It turns out, also yes.
