Prime minister Theresa May has appointed Tracey Crouch to a new ministerial post responsible for leading on issues related to loneliness. The creation of the post was one of the main recommendations made in a report published by the Jo Cox Commission on loneliness.
The move has been supported by many in mental health. Dave Munday, lead professional officer for Unite, said: “It’s welcome that the prime minister has made this new appointment.
“I hope they will be successful in convincing the government to reverses a number of cuts that have increased people’s loneliness, for example local libraries and support centres and groups.”
