“I’m fortunate to have a good collection of trophies and memorabilia, but this champagne bottle from the 1926 British Grand Prix always strikes me as something extra special. My dad [ex-touring car ace Jonathan] acquired it as part of a business deal years ago, so I guess he’d say it’s his, but I like to think of it as a family heirloom. The 1926 race at Brooklands was the very first British GP, and this is a double magnum of Lemoine champagne, which was presented to the winner on the podium. To top it all off, it’s signed on the label by race winner Robert Sénéchal [Delage 15S8] and podium finishers Malcolm Campbell [Bugatti Type 39] and Robert Benoist [Delage 15S8]. The signatures have faded quite a bit, but we’re looking into either restoring them or preserving them somehow. Either way it’s a true one-of-a-kind piece.”
