Off-road experiences
Whether you’re looking for mayhem in the mud or wheelspins in the sand, there are plenty of off-roading experiences in the UK and abroad. But you don’t have to be a petrolhead or experienced overlander to enjoy one. Peter Girling, the owner of Atlas Overland, says his clients range from travellers keen to get off the beaten track in Europe, to those after full-throttle thrills. “Our trips are for anyone with a sense of adventure. We’ve just had our youngest — a four-month-old baby — and we’ve escorted travellers in their 80s too.” While Girling offers a range of destinations, from Portugal to the Arctic Circle, he recommends Morocco for anyone intending to take on a big overland trip alone. “It’ll get you quickly out into fairly remote terrain and will test you and your vehicle in all the different conditions you’ll experience throughout Africa.”
