Brasília, Brazil— A riot police officer and a protester square of during a demonstration against the violation of indigenous people’s rights on April 25. Indigenous people frequently clash with farmers and ranchers in Brazil’s Amazon region, where they have been pushed of resource-rich reserves. Around 4,000 indigenous people were protesting proposed legislation to give Congress power to set land boundaries, a move they fear will favor the farmers, who are a powerful lobbying force.
