Khan, the son of Pakistani immigrants, became the first Muslim mayor of a major Western city after a landslide victory over Conservative Party candidate Zac Goldsmith. With the increasing popularity of right-wing parties across the continent, supporters hope Khan’s victory can reaffirm Europe’s tolerance and diversity.
