Washington, D.C.— They arrived in wheelchairs, flopping on the ground and staging a “die-in” outside the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. On June 22, dozens of disability advocates protested the GOP’s health care bill in hopes that the Republicans would roll back proposed cuts to Medicaid. Capitol Police detained 43 as the legislation, which was drafted in secret, came under attack from centrists and conservatives, as well as the Democrats who unanimously oppose it in the Senate. Meanwhile, senators were waiting for the Congressional Budget Office to analyze the bill, which could leave over 20 million more Americans uninsured.
