Is 3D printing the future of industry?
Micaella Feldstein, a tech and data analyst at Natixis CIB, ponders the next steps for the booming 3D printing sector
Additive manufacturing, more commonly known as 3D printing, refers to A technologies that grow 3D objects, one superfine layer at a time, from instructions contained in digital files. At the start of the process, computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) are used to create a model and to program the manufacturing processes.
The file is sent to the 3D printer, which deposits layers of material until the object is formed. There are various techniques, including extrusion or fused deposition modelling (FDM), polymerisation, and powder bed fusion (PBF).
