BAD NEWS
EVERY MISTAKE IMAGINABLE
HNE
★★
Timing in comedy is everything. Though it had been conceived long before, by the time The Comic Strip’s spoof metal band’s only self-titled album was released in 1987, Spinal Tap had landed, rendering Bad News somewhat old news. This compiles that album plus various singles and a never-released second LP. The music isn’t great, the jokes haven’t got any better in 35 years and the Troggs Tapes-style arguing between tracks is just tedious. Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall are rightly comedy icons, but this really wasn’t their finest hour.
