My rented home used to be student digs!
Before Teri Muncey came along, this flat was student accommodation, but now it’s a beacon of creativity and simple Scandi style
GOOD IDEA
Paint your own artwork, just as Teri has, to pick out colours in the room’s scheme
Teri’s living space is full of high street finds; the lamp is from Homebase, the side table and grey sofa are Habitat, and she found the black sofa on Wayfair.com
Living area
‘The thing that struck us about the living room at first was just how much white wall there was to fill,’ Teri explains. ‘I got to work creating art to fill the space; the huge abstract canvas I painted turns the intimidatingly large expanse above the sofa into a real focal point. All of the furniture is a little nod to our love of all things Scandinavian, and is great for both of us as nothing has ended up too feminine.’
Being a rented property, Teri had to be clever with her furniture choices.‘I would have loved a wallmounted bookcase, but I have to be careful with how much goes on the walls. The ladder shelving works perfectly, as it opens up the room whilst still fitting with the rest of the furniture.’
With so much white wall to fill, Teri took its decoration into her own hands. ‘I made the giant canvas and it’s the kind of thing anyone could do. I started with a light base, then added bolder streaks with a brush - there’s even some copper paint in there to tie in with the copper details around the room.’
