Despite the name, buckwheat is a cereal grain not at all related to wheat, meaning it’s gluten-free. It’s richer in various minerals than most other common cereals – such as rice, wheat and corn – and it’s particularly high in the antioxidant rutin. Also found in apples, figs, citrus fruits and green tea, rutin has countless health benefits, including helping to strengthen and increase the flexibility of blood vessels, therefore aiding circulation. Try incorporating buckwheat groats, flour and noodles into your meals for healthy alternatives to more common grains.
