My love of the couch and comfort foods left me feeling overweight, lazy and demotivated,” says Melissa Lamb, 38, from Peterborough. “Then one day I decided enough was enough and downloaded the Zombies, Run! 5K Training app.
“Initially I found running hard, but I soon got hooked. Just three months after I took up running I went on holiday to Greece, where I got married 10 years ago this August. Before I left I was looking for a book that would nourish my mind as much as the new healthy diet I’d now adopted and came across What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. The four-hour plane journey, hour-long bus ride, and hour ferry ride to Thassos were all very conducive to reading, as was lying on the beach enjoying the sound of lapping waves.
