THE RACES
The journey to the SuperHalfs
Let’s dig down into the SuperHalf races: where are they, what are they like to run, and – importantly – how much do they cost to enter
In contrast to the World Marathon Majors, who seem to play on the idea of bragging rights, the SuperHalfs tagline is “for the fun of running. For the thrill of travel. And for the joy of saying “I did it!”. They say that the races are chosen based on quality, popularity, location and commitments to sustainability (though there are currently no hard stats available on that aspect). They are also keen to encourage tourism in the various locations to assist the local economies.
The latter has certainly been a success – in 2022, 8% of runners across the races were SuperHalfs athletes, but by 2024 every 4th runner was signed up. In smaller races the effect is even bigger – 70% of participants in 2025’s Prague Half Marathon were tourists, which emphasises the importance of the impact on these city’s economies.
