HEW, 2022 is finally over! Yep, it was a tough one; the reality being 2022 caused a certain degree of angst for just about everybody. General inflation, rising gas prices, climate threats, stock market dives, the Ukraine/Russia war, politics, gun violence, COVID…it was a year that just kept giving, but obviously not in a good way. We were warned, however, in a real way, of course, but also in fiction. Yes, there were harbingers, especially in sci-fi movies, a genre that often negatively predicts the future. What’s odd, though, is that so many different fictional sources targeted 2022 specifically as THE year that everything went to…err…crap!
Probably the most infamous is 1973’s ecologically disastrous tale, Soylent Green. The movie poster for the film screamed, “It’s the year 2022. People are still the same. They’ll do anything to get what they need. And they need SOYLENT GREEN.” *Spoiler Alert*—By 2022, the world had run out of food and the only thing left to eat was Soylent Green (aka: people)! Charlton Heston’s character could warn about it, but even he couldn’t fix it!
