IT APPEARS that the threat of up to 300 jobs being axed across the region’s schools has been shelved after reports that Highland Council’s ruling administration is to propose protecting school posts from any budget cuts.
The local authority has been looking at a range of suggestions on how to plug a £26 million black hole in its finances, including cutting back on teacher numbers.
But the council’s budget leader, Alasdair Mackinnon, has now said that suggested cuts to 300 school jobs in schools were ‘off the table’.
