MP FOR Ross, Skye and Lochaber Ian Blackford is holding a surgery in Mallaig this Friday, January 12, to meet with constituents about the effects of the proposed closure of the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Mallaig branch on the wider community.
Before the Westminster Parliament closed for the Christmas recess, Ian Blackford secured a debate on the RBS closures across the UK and called on the government to intervene, on the basis that 73 per cent of the bank is in state ownership.
He said: ’Government statements that this is entirely a commercial decision over which they have no control is nonsensical. They were consulted on the departure of the former chief executive and just in the last few weeks on the sale of an insurance arm of the business. How can they claim to have no say?
