High standards at annual piping contest praised

LOCHABER Piping Society held its annual junior piping competition at Lochaber High School on Saturday April 8.

This year’s adjudicators were Rona Lightfoot, Euan MacCrimmon and Dougie Beck. Mr Beck said: ‘It’s heartening to see the standard young musicians are achieving. The fantastic developments in traditional music over the past 20 years mean younger pipers have a plethora of options to engage with their music. However, it is evident the skills and discipline required to take part in events such as this are valued. A lot of hard work went in on the part of the pipers, their tutors and their parents and they should all be congratulated.’ Results: Chanter 10 years and under - March - 1 Shaughn Paul Dunlop; 2 Aidan Paterson.
