THE ROMANCE of travelling over the sea to Skye would have been lost if the world’s last sea-going, manually-operated, turntable ferry had not been restored and kept in operation, according to broadcaster Nicky Campbell.
Mr Campbell, who has had a house on the island for more than 20 years, was guest of honour at last week’s ceremony on the Glenelg slipway to mark completion of the final phase of restoration of the MV Glenachulish.
The ferry company and the Glenachulish Preservation Trust (Skye Ferry Charity) staged an event to celebrate the hanging of the vessel’s bell and the completion of work on her new, state-of -the-art wheelhouse.
