IT WAS a pleasure, a few weeks ago, to welcome the granddaughter of the late Norman John Gillies who came with his family to Morvern from St Kilda following the evacuation of his ancestral home in 1930.
The visit brought back many memories for the few residents who can recall the St Kildans and the life they made for themselves in the parish.
Coinciding with the visit, an interesting letter has come to light written by the Rev Angus Fiddes, the last Free Church Minister on St KIlda who was on the island from 1889 to 1903. It was written in Gaelic and addressed to Mr Malcolm Ferguson (1814-1912), Morenish House, Callander, who, on hearing that the St Kildans were trying to create a library, had despatched a number of books on the Dunara Castle addressed to the minister.
