Anger as plans escape scrutiny due to errors

AT LEAST three planning applications could have been denied community council scrutiny in one area alone this year, after Argyll and Bute Council officers filed them in the wrong patch, Kilninver and Kilmelford Community Council heard at its meeting last week.

As statutory consultees, community councillors investigate, consult and comment on planning applications, picked up before their regular meetings from Argyll and Bute Council’s weekly lists, but Kilninver and Kilmelford community councillors said errors denied them this opportunity, and asked how many more were slipping through the net across Argyll. Chairman Nigel Mitchell told the October 10 meeting: ‘This is the third one that has gone to the wrong community council for distribution. God knows how our application went to Oban. It is ridiculous. Argyll and Bute Council have got to get this sorted.
