SCOTLAND’S Deputy First Minister John Swinney used his appearance at Friday night’s opening ceremony for the 2017 Royal National Mòd in Fort William to announce more cash to fund Gaelic language and culture initiatives, writes Mark Entwistle.
The Scottish Government is awarding £35,000 to the Royal National Mòd towards Gaelic education initiatives and a further £20,000 of core funding every year from 2018.
Speaking at the Nevis Centre in Fort William on a celebratory evening of speeches and song, Mr Swinney said: ‘This year marks the 125th anniversary of the Royal National Mòd – it is a much-valued part of Scottish cultural life and has made an immense contribution to Gaelic language throughout the country.
