Appalled by planning committee meetings

First, may I congratulate you as editor, on your coverage and standard of reporting that has been given to the misfortune experienced by Ann Colthart of Connel.

I attended both sessions, forenoon and afternoon, of the public hearing on Thursday November 3, and was appalled by the manner in which such an important meeting was conducted.

We, the residents of Connel, certainly had our eyes opened to the manner in which the Argyll and Bute Planning Committee functions.

The following morning, comments in the village ranged from: ‘That meeting was an absolute shambles’; ‘Three of the members were asleep’; ‘That chairman should never have made known his intention to support the proposed plans before the vote’ and, after the vote, ‘That was an absolute stitch-up’ – a statement made by three independent individuals. The community council meeting was well supported and many complaints were again made about the public hearing, together with dismay at the blatant neglect of the developers to conduct site meetings to check up on the prescribed building regulations.
