Thought for the week

THE DIGNITY of silence is Jesus’s great lesson for us in the days leading up to His crucifixion and death.

Palm Sunday was the day of much noise and it looked as though Jesus was triumphant. As that last week unfolded, read the story and you notice Jesus says less and less. Eventually He is silent in front of Pilate at His trial.

Jesus’s silence is not the mere absence of words but the silence of the deep knowledge of the meaning and purpose of love in our lives - love which is known not only in affection, warmth, relationships, life giving as these things are.
