Oban desperately needs new homes

Drew MacFarlane-Slack is to be congratulated for standing up for affordable housing, jobs and the needs of our communities in his contribution to the debate on housing provision in Glenshellach, covered in last week’s Oban Times.

Oban has an acute affordable housing shortage and Glenshellach has been zoned for housing development for the past 20 years.

Argyll is haemorrhaging young people – and is one of only two local authority areas in the country to see population decline in recent times.

The lack of affordable housing for young families to stay in and to come to is profound in this town.

I am delighted that, in November of this year, ACHA will be completing its current development in Glen shellach of 17 new homes, some of which will provide desperately needed housing for large families needing fourbedroomed homes, of which there are only a handful in the town.
