West End Festival is in full fiight

GLASGOW’S annual West End Festival has been a great success this year – with a fantastic West Highland representation.

On Saturday June 18, the Kelvingrove bandstand was filled with the sounds of Gaelic Choirs who all collaborated for a number of songs as part of a concert called VOICE@ KelvingroveBandstand.

The bandstand is a prominent venue in the city, an open-air amphitheatre just off the Kelvin Walkway in the heart of Kelvingrove Park, so to have Gaelic airs and puirt a beul soaring out from the stage can only have been a great thing for the promotion of the Gaelic language and music in Glasgow. Well done to all involved.

That same night, Gaelic ‘super group’ Daimh were playing alongside music and drama students of the Glasgow Gaelic School in the CCA in an evening put on by Ceol ’s Craic and An Lochran. I was sorry to have been away from Glasgow on Saturday because both sound like they were really good events.
