A TELEPHONE call threatening the guga hunters of the Isle of Lewis is being investigated by police.
Every August, in an ancient tradition, 10 men from Ness sail to the skerry of Sulasgeir to harvest fledgling gannets, named guga in Gaelic.
Seabird hunting was outlawed in 1954, but Ness is granted the UK’s only exemption. Scottish Natural Heritage deemed the annual quota of 2,000 birds as sustainable.
