FOLLOWING a record-breaking year for the Isle of Skye Half Marathon, lead sponsors The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) joined event organisers on Wednesday July 12 to present cheques to community groups who volunteered their time and support for the race.
A total of 741 runners completed the 13.1 mile race on Saturday June 10, making it the biggest turnout in the event’s 33-year history. Community groups were rewarded for their efforts in ensuring the smooth running of this year’s half marathon at the Portree Hotel.
Cheques totalling £2,400 were distributed and Ewen Maclean, Senior Marine Sites Manager at SSC, was on hand to congratulate representatives from each organisation and help Alistair Danter, chairman of Skye Events, present the donations. Organisations who received donations for their volunteering efforts included Isle of Skye Pipe Band, the local Brownies, Guides, Beavers and Cubs, Skye Rotary Club, DAES dance group, Skye Dance, Skye Gymnastic Group, Skye Camanachd (shinty), Skye and Lochalsh Football Association and Skye Strings Band.
