There is no denying the fact that the Oban area requires more homes – including affordable social housing – as its economy and population continue to expand.
Where to locate that housing has proved to be an intractable problem for a considerable time. Proposals for new homes at Glenshellach have been controversial, as have those for what is known as the Dunbeg corridor.
Last week saw Argyll and Bute councillors rubberstamp an application for around 600 new homes between Dunbeg and Ganavan, a move initially opposed by residents of Dunbeg, who fear the infrastructure in the area would not be able meet the demands placed on it by such an influx of new people.
