A TEENAGER has been jailed and a second sentenced to a community payback order for a ‘violent’ assault in Oban.
Both 19-year-olds admitted assaulting a man on Argyll Street on March 12 by repeatedly kicking him to his head and body, causing him to lose consciousness. Both previously appeared at Oban Sheriff Court on August 17, when Sheriff Ruth Anderson QC deferred sentencing for reports.
Defence agent Jane McLaren appealed to Sheriff Anderson to impose a community payback order on Darren Clark, of 10 Mill Brae, Bunessan. ‘He has turned a corner,’ she told the court on Tuesday September 27. ‘This has been a huge fright to him. He has taken responsibility. There is no excusing the fact. Alcohol contributes to his violent behaviour. He has not got over the death of his friend, and uses alcohol to cope with it.’
