WHETHER you are staying over, or just stopping in on your way to BOWFest, the award-winning George Hotel is a firm favourite for rooms, food and drink with visitors and locals alike.
This historic set of buildings was erected in 1770 when the 3rd Duke of Argyll built the planned town, and in 1860 the Clark family joined the two houses into the George Hotel. For seven generations, the Clarks have welcomed holiday makers from around the world, as well as their area clientele, who are happy to drive from as far away as Oban or Fort William to enjoy the first-rate cuisine, friendly service and charming ambience – complete with flagstone floors and four roaring fireplaces.
The current owner, Donald Clark, has sensitively restored the rooms, restaurant areas and bars to create an authentic, stylish atmosphere, and now his son, Kris, is carrying on the family tradition, as he and his wife, Marine and their three daughters live on site and are active in the business.
