STIRLING - Caledonian Marts sold on Thursday February 1 194 cattle, comprising 92 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 77 cast cows and bulls and 25 stirks and calves.

A poorer show of prime cattle for quality would be no cheaper on the week.

Bullocks averaged 212p Heifers averaged 221p Black and white bullocks averaged 154p Young bulls averaged 190p Beef cows averaged 132p Dairy cows averaged 108p Bullocks sold to 250p for a Limousin from Learielaw, Broxburn to T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk, and to £1621 gross for the same animal.

Heifers sold to 250p for a Limousin from Upper Spittalton, Thornhill, to G Kirk & Sons, Butcher, Denny, and to £1626 gross from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Young bulls sold to 198p for a Limousin from Giffordland, Dalry, and to £1694 gross from Cairnbog, Kilsyth.

Leading prices: Bullocks ppkg; 248p & 242p Learielaw 240p (twice) Seggersdean and Brockwoodlees 230p (twice) Bankhead (Kerr) 228p (twice) Spittal & Faskine 225p (twice) Spittal, Seggarsdean & Strageath 220p Millearne and Strageath Heifers ppkg; 248p (Twice) Learielaw and Brockwoodlees 245p Faskine, Upper Spittalton and Brockwoodlees 235p Bankhead 230p Faskine 225p Wester Carmuirs 222p Dullomuir 220p Spittal (Bilsland) Also forward were 77 cast cows and bulls.
