Obituary - Philip Godfrey Preston, 1956 - 2016

Philip Preston, a former managing director of Cal-Mac and resident of Oban, has died.

Philip Godfrey Preston was born in Glasgow on May 11, 1956.

He attended Hillhead school, where he was on the rowing team and which gave him an early taste for messing around in boats.

As a young boy, he sang in the choir of All Saints Episcopal Church and there began a lifelong love of music.

He graduated from Paisley college with a degree in engineering in 1978. After graduating, he joined the marine department of consultant engineers Crouch and Hogg in 1980 and was involved with a variety of projects from large industrial facilities to small ferry slipways.

Philip Godfrey Preston is remembered for his calm approach, his unflappable nature and his ability to see the other person’s point of view.
