Switched on – zoned out

Social media, young people and the importance of yoga.

Social media is at the heart of young peoples’ lives. It is a means of communication that plays a central part in identity, trust, friendship and connection. Social media is primarily a tool for connection, it helps shy youngsters get in touch with people they like, it helps them and us connect with friends quickly and easily, literally chatting with people at any time of day or night across the globe. Many young people are consistently taught about social media at school, how to regulate, how to filter fake news and how to protect themselves. We use terms such as ‘meet’ online, making no distinction between meeting in person or online. Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter are the most popular networking sites, with Snapchat probably having the biggest impact on every day communication at the moment.
