UNDERSTAND METER MODES
Let the camera calculate exposure settings for every scene
Every camera has a built-in meter that’s designed to analyse dark, bright and mid-toned areas of a scene to determine the best exposure. Which point you choose to meter from makes a significant difference to the results – when metering from a mid-tone range, you’ll achieve a standard exposure. It’s important to note that the camera only can meter the light reflected by a subject, and not incident light – the light that falls on a subject. To measure incident light accurately, you’ll need an external light meter; these are especially useful in portrait photography, and will help you to achieve consistently well-exposed images.
