Whether you fancy staying close to home, or you’re planning to venture further afield, we’re now no longer faced with the question ‘where can I go on holiday as a vegan’, but ‘where should I go first?’. There are so many beautiful cities and countries around the world that offer a thriving vegan scene, as plant-based restaurants are popping up in abundance. To make it a little easier to know where to go first, we’ve rounded up two of the best UK-based cities — if you fancy a staycation — and three countries, that may not be the first to strike you as vegan-friendly.
Cardiff
It’s not surprising that the capital city of Wales is home to a host of vegan restaurants and events, which makes it a must-visit destination if you plan on venturing around the UK. The Greazy Vegan (greazyvegan.com) is the perfect place to visit if you want to indulge in a naughty burger, as it offers plant-based alternatives to fast food classics – including the Chickun Royale, Big Moc, Vopper and Vacon Double Cheeseburger. If you fancy something a little healthier, check out Anna-Loka (anna-loka.com), a tasteful restaurant offering an extensive breakfast, lunch and evening menu. Also, if you’re in Cardiff on 3rd August, make sure you pop along to the Welsh Vegan Festival (welshveganfestival.com), which is just a short walk from the centre.
