Where I live is awash with young professionals who epitomise the ‘millennial’ buzzword, especially in terms of being glued to handheld technology.

Networking 24-7, they go about their daily business online, even when walking down the street.

I frequently swerve to avoid pavement collisions with these souls. Hypervigilant to every message and email, they’re disconnected from their physical surroundings and other people.

Distraction, not connection

This bears out a recent stat* that people in their 20s and 30s check social media 157 times a day, on average. It rings alarm bells among UKCP psychotherapists, who are increasingly concerned about the wellness of a generation already facing so much uncertainty and anxiety.
