Belt and braces: a serviced Ecoboost Fiesta makes sense
❝ The point is, don’t buy one unless the work has been carried out ❞
Huge thanks to Tim for starting a conversation with me about Ford Ecoboost three-cylinder engines. I have mentioned these before and not in an especially complimentary way. Not exactly future-proofed, because once you’ve had a decade or more than 100k miles’ worth of fun, it needs a complicated cambelt change.
I spoke to my mechanic mate Matt and he won’t do it. You need to spend £800 on specialist tools, and it’s going to take a lot of jobs to earn that back. Quotes for the job from garages vary, from £600 to more than £2000. The point is, don’t buy one unless the all-important work has been carried out, or factor it into the purchase price.
